German Cockroaches

The German cockroaches are the most common cockroach species found worldwide. While German cockroach infestations occur in a variety of human-occupied spaces, they are most often associated with restaurants, food processing facilities, hotels, nursing homes and other institutional facilities. German cockroaches prefer to live in warm, humid places close to food and moisture sources. When German cockroach populations are present in large numbers, it may be possible to detect a mild, somewhat “musty” odour.

American Cockroaches

The American cockroach is the largest of the house-infesting roaches and a major pest in the Kenya. American cockroaches are reddish-brown in color with a yellow band that outlines the area behind their head. Although American cockroaches have the ability to bite, they rarely do. If a bite occurs, it should not be a concern unless it gets infected in which you should seek medical attention.

Oriental Cockroaches

Believed to be of African origin despite its name, the oriental cockroach is one of the larger species of cockroach.  Oriental cockroaches gain entry into households by going under doors and through gaps beneath siding, as well as following pipes, sewers and drains into a structure. Oriental cockroaches secrete chemicals to communicate with each other. The chemicals have a notorious musty odour.

Cockroaches Can Live Without Food for One Month

Cockroaches are able to go for so long without sustenance because they are cold-blooded insects. However, they can only survive for one week without water, which is why they are commonly found in humid or high-moisture areas around the home, such as basements and bathrooms.

These facts prove that cockroaches are some of the most adaptable creatures on earth, which makes controlling and eliminating a cockroach infestation all the more difficult. To get rid of cockroaches in your home, experts suggest keeping food sealed and stored properly, particularly in the kitchen, which should be cleaned daily to prevent crumbs and trash from building up. Garbage should be disposed of regularly and stored in sealed containers. Homeowners should seek out and seal all cracks and holes in homes, including entry points for utilities and pipes, as these can serve as entranceways for the pest. In addition, basements and crawl spaces should be kept well ventilated and dry..

  • A Cockroach Can Live for Week Without Its Head
  • They Can Run Up to Three Miles in an Hour
  • Cockroaches transfer pathogenic microbes that cause food poisoning and other illnesses
  • Many people are also allergic to cockroach excrement and their shed skins
  •  Cockroach-produced allergens may cause life-threatening bronchial inflammation (asthma) characterized by recurrent cough, wheezing, and difficulty breathing.
